[89Zr]Zr-Df-SA is a radiolabeled protein conjugate designed for use in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. It consists of the positron-emitting radioisotope zirconium-89 (89Zr) chelated by deferoxamine (Df) and covalently linked to streptavidin (SA). This complex serves as a modular diagnostic platform that leverages the exceptionally high affinity between streptavidin and biotin to attach the radioactive tracer to biotinylated targeting moieties, such as aptamers or antibodies. In preclinical research, it has been utilized to label an anti-PSMA dimeric aptamer (BioDAC) for the detection of prostate cancer. A notable characteristic of this conjugate is its high renal retention, attributed to the streptavidin component, which currently limits its clinical translation and necessitates further structural optimization to reduce off-target radioactivity.
